The program of the Master’s course allows profound experiences in the various areas of graphic design and develops in an ongoing relation among these disciplines in order to promote a higher level of professionalism and enhance the technical proficiency of the designers.
The studio classes and a final three months internship draw up the students’ design thinking and their graphic abilities by reproducing the challenging dynamics which are peculiar to the professional practice.
Format, layout and composition, typography and visual elements are closely investigated as key elements of the language of the graphic representation. The plan of studies includes advanced training in all the professional tools and up-to-date technologies.
The 15-month SPD Master degree in Visual design is aimed at graduates in Visual Communication, Graphic Design, Advertising or their equivalents and students from Fine Arts Academies with graphic orientation; students with a significant experience in the field.
ONE YEAR COURSE IN visual DESIGN
The school offers also an intensive training course, designed for candidates with a degree not relevant to the field of further studies. The OneYear course in Visual Design allows a creative immersion into design practice and transfers the essential tools to handle complex projects.
It is taught following a practical approach that starts from cycles of exercises and workshops succeeded by more complex identity projects and editorial designs. The One Year Course in Visual Design can also be intended as a primer to the Master course in Visual Design.
The programme guides students to consolidate their personal creative technique thereby encouraging a conscious approach to the design stage, a designer’s most vital possession.
Teaching focuses on practical experiences of increasing complexity alongside specialized classes in methodology and operational techniques. As a result of SPD’s peculiar historical heritage, specific attention is paid to relationship between the processes of human perception and the cultural and artistic roots of visual representation.
Founded in 1954, Scuola Politecnica di Design is the first postgraduate training center for design disciplines in Italy.
The school offers English programs: OneYear courses and recognised Masters that corresponds to 60 ECTS credits, in collaboration with IULM University. SPD has been awarded with the prestigious Compasso d'Oro prize and is a member of the Cumulus design academies network and of ADI and AIAP professional organisations.

SPD premises are located in Milan, in the heart of the Zona Tortona design district and close to the lively Navigli area.
