At SPD Scuola Politecninca di Design in Milan, students are called on to envision progressive transportation concepts that fit a future scenario where cars are no more the unrivaled player.
The Master’s program embraces the entire design development process and aims at researching into new experiential concepts, redefining the architectural solutions and moving forward with new criteria for function, comfort and emotion.
The studio projects, in collaboration with major car companies, run through the entire duration of the Master, parallel to the technical training. SPD has a long-standing educational partnership with Volkswagen Group, involving designers from the various brands - from Audi to Lamborghini – taking part in the teaching activities.
The 15-month SPD Master degree in Transportation and car design is aimed at graduates in Transportation or Car Design, Industrial Design, Vehicle Engineering or their equivalents, and candidates who have gained significant professional experience in the field.
ONE YEAR COURSE IN Car design tools
The One Year Course in Car Design Tools is aimed at candidates with an academic background not relevant to the main area of study, wishing to acquire the essential set of skills to approach the design process. The OneYear course is designed to transfer a complete understanding of automotive strategy, planning and the relevant design techniques.
The program is devised as a first approach to the most fascinating and competitive careers in the world of design. The course can also be intended as a primer to the Master in Transportation and Car Design.
The programme provides a tightly interlaced mix of strategic thinking and design methodology with a spur toward product and system innovation, marketing and communication insights, and car design hard skills. Teaching is arranged into a balanced combination of theoretical teaching and project-based training.
Lessons are directly related to the requirements and the skills needed for the Master’s year, which is a continuation of this course and focuses on more specialized and advanced aspects.
Founded in 1954, Scuola Politecnica di Design is the first postgraduate training center for design disciplines in Italy.
The school offers English programs: OneYear courses and recognised Masters that corresponds to 60 ECTS credits, in collaboration with IULM University. SPD has been awarded with the prestigious Compasso d'Oro prize and is a member of the Cumulus design academies network and of ADI and AIAP professional organisations.

SPD is located in a modern campus near IULM University in one of the most vibrant areas of the city.
SPD premises are located in Milan, in the heart of the Zona Tortona design district and close to the lively Navigli area. The school is easily connected to the city centre within minutes by bus or by underground and train. Campus facilities include canteen, computer and study rooms, library service. Milan is a world capital of design and fashion, with a dense concentration of firms and experimental companies.
The city boasts new architectures, museum and designers' showrooms that represent a daily source of inspiration for young creative people. On the plus side, the burgeoning hotel and restaurant scene with new additions every year. During the design week and fashion shows, the city is transformed into an art installation.
