The Master in Product Design focuses on the user experience and the broader meaning of the product, crucial for designers to fully understand the social and environmental impact of it.
The aim of the course is to provide a space for experimentation for students, in order to express their skills, from conception to execution of quality products with a sustainable approach..
Multidisciplinary Approach
Learning by doing approach with a lot of practice, laboratories, outdoor visits and workshops are the core of the SPD method. The program provides students with the opportunity to collaborate with industry professionals and companies, fostering teamwork and skill development.
SPD Experience
Studying at SPD means immersing yourself in a fresh, dynamic and international environment, where foreign students account for 70% of the total student population. Each student is followed individually by a faculty composed of professionals coming from different fields.
Internship/Advanced Practice
This module offers students the opportunity to undertake a professional training internship at external institutions and companies, a way to fully understand what it means to be a product designer and to see the entire product chain. Alternatively, an in-house research internship or a study period abroad.
Major Project
The Major Project module aims at enabling students to develop and direct their own design project, taking into account learnings from previous modules. It aims also at encouraging students to demonstrate a high level of professional competence and to have a deep understanding of the social and philosophical context, in which they are practising. Students are expected to demonstrate the enterprise potential in their ideas and to understand the future possibilities and contexts, in which ideas will exist. Students critically reflect upon their own learning and become prepared for continuous professional development.

Course Leader
Francesco Faccin
Francesco Faccin, born in Milan in 1977, graduated from the European Institute of Design in 2003 and worked in Enzo Mari’s studio. He then pursued a career as an independent designer, collaborating with both Italian and foreign companies. Starting in 2004, he focused on creating self-produceable projects in small quantities, working closely with artisans and overseeing every phase of product development.
During this period, he also collaborated with model maker and luthier Francesco Rivolta. In 2007, he made his debut at the SaloneSatellite with the “Quadrato” table, which entered production and became a part of the Cosmit’s permanent collection. In 2009, he began an ongoing collaboration with Michele De Lucchi.
Also in 2013, he presented an exhibition at the Triennale featuring objects crafted from urban waste in Nairobi’s slums, titled “Made in Slums.” He collaborated with numerous Italian and foreign companies and consistently conducted research through small-scale projects. His work has been extensively featured in national and international publications.

Training Programm
L'obiettivo del SPD è preparare ogni studente a diventare un professionista completo. I corsi sono suddivisi in una parte teorica, costituita da lezioni e visite esterne, e in una parte progettuale per ogni area di insegnamento con workshop realizzati in collaborazione con importanti studi e agenzie di design.
Faculty
In SPD ogni studente viene seguito individualmente da un corpo docente composto da designer, professionisti provenienti da vari settori e tutor. Molti dei più importanti nomi internazionali del Design, come Patricia Urquiola, Martí Guixé, Denis Santachiara, Ross Lovegrove e Chris Bangle hanno tenuto lezioni in SPD.

Training Programm
SPD’s goal is to prepare every student to be a complete professional. The courses are divided into a theoretical part, consisting of lectures and external visits, and a project part for each teaching area with workshops held in collaboration with important studios and design agencies.
Faculty
In SPD each student is followed individually by a teaching staff composed by designers, professionals from various sectors and tutors. Many of the most important international names in Design, such as Patricia Urquiola, Denis Santachiara, Ross Lovegrove and Chris Bangle gave lectures in SPD.

SPD’s Masters are aimed at graduates in subjects similar to the master; the students who want to undertake, in the Italian capital of design, a specialization path that allows them to improve their manual and creative skills; the places are limited and the selections happen in a previous cognitive call.
