The Master in Food Design aims at developing the essential creative skills to excel in the field of food design, representing a great opportunity for graduates in design, marketing and communication, as well as for professionals active in the field.

The program analyzes food markets, focusing on design as an approach and method.

Multidisciplinary Approach

A lot of practice, laboratories, outdoor visits and workshops are the core of the SPD method. The program provides students with the opportunity to collaborate with industry professionals and companies, fostering teamwork and skill development.

SPD Experience

Studying at SPD means immersing yourself in a fresh, dynamic and international environment, where foreign students account for 70% of the total student population. Each student is followed individually by a faculty composed of professionals coming from different fields.

Internship/Advanced Practice

This module provides the opportunity for the student to experience either a vocational internship with external institutions and companies, an internal research internship, or a period of study abroad.

Major Project

The Major Project module aims at enabling students to develop and direct their own design project, taking into account learnings from previous modules. It aims also at encouraging students to demonstrate a high level of professional competence and to have a deep understanding of the social and philosophical context, in which they are practising. Students are expected to demonstrate the enterprise potential in their ideas and to understand the future possibilities and contexts, in which ideas will exist. Students critically reflect upon their own learning and become prepared for continuous professional development.

Course Leader

Martí Guixé

Martí Guixé formed in Barcelona and Milan as an interior and industrial designer.

In 1994, living in Berlin, he formulated a new way to understand the culture of products. Martí started to exhibit his work in 1997, a work characterized by the search for new product systems, the introduction of design in food ambits, and presentation through performance. His non-conventional gaze provides brilliant and simple ideas of a curious seriousness.

He is based in Barcelona and Berlin and works as a Designer for worldwide companies such as Camper, Chupa-Chups, Desigual, Droog Design, and Watx, and has exhibited his creations at the MoMA in New York, the Design Museum in London, the MACBA in Barcelona, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

SPD’s goal is to prepare every student to be a complete professional. The courses are divided into a theoretical part, consisting of lectures and external visits, and a project part for each teaching area with workshops held in collaboration with important studios and design agencies.

In SPD each student is followed individually by a teaching staff composed by designers, professionals from various sectors and tutors. Many of the most important international names in Design, such as Patricia Urquiola, Denis Santachiara, Ross Lovegrove and Chris Bangle gave lectures in SPD.
