The Master in Product Design focuses on the user experience and the broader meaning of the product, crucial for designers to fully understand the social and environmental impact of it.

The aim of the course is to provide a space for experimentation for students, in order to express their skills,  from conception to execution.

Multidisciplinary Approach

A lot of practice, laboratories, outdoor visits and workshops are the core of the SPD method. The program provides students with the opportunity to collaborate with industry professionals and companies, fostering teamwork and skill development.

SPD Experience

Studying at SPD means immersing yourself in a fresh, dynamic and international environment, where foreign students account for 70% of the total student population. Each student is followed individually by a faculty composed of professionals coming from different fields.

Internship/Advanced Practice

This module provides the opportunity for the student to experience either a vocational internship with external institutions and companies, an internal research internship, or a period of study abroad.

Major Project

The Major Project module aims at enabling students to develop and direct their own design project, taking into account learnings from previous modules. It aims also at encouraging students to demonstrate a high level of professional competence and to have a deep understanding of the social and philosophical context, in which they are practising. Students are expected to demonstrate the enterprise potential in their ideas and to understand the future possibilities and contexts, in which ideas will exist. Students critically reflect upon their own learning and become prepared for continuous professional development.

Course Leader

Francesco Faccin

Francesco Faccin, born in Milan in 1977, graduated from the European Institute of Design in 2003 and worked in Enzo Mari’s studio. He then pursued a career as an independent designer, collaborating with both Italian and foreign companies. Starting in 2004, he focused on creating self-produceable projects in small quantities, working closely with artisans and overseeing every phase of product development.

During this period, he also collaborated with model maker and luthier Francesco Rivolta. In 2007, he made his debut at the SaloneSatellite with the “Quadrato” table, which entered production and became a part of the Cosmit’s permanent collection. In 2009, he began an ongoing collaboration with Michele De Lucchi.

Also in 2013, he presented an exhibition at the Triennale featuring objects crafted from urban waste in Nairobi’s slums, titled “Made in Slums.” He collaborated with numerous Italian and foreign companies and consistently conducted research through small-scale projects. His work has been extensively featured in national and international publications.
